The Gibraltar Rock's New Roof!
The Tyneside Developments team recently completed a brand new roof for one of Tynemouth’s oldest pubs following devastating storm damage.
The Gibraltar Rock’s iconic seafront location meant the building had no defence against the 90mph winds which battered the coast on 26th November 2021.
Storm Arwen, which prompted a red weather warning in the area, literally took the roof off the historic pub, smashing windows and throwing tiles and debris into the street.
Tyneside Developments quickly stepped in to secure the site and start work on a full replacement roof. Due to the prominent and exposed location, with heavy foot traffic from pedestrians, our team had to maintain an extremely high level of health and safety compliance throughout the job to keep the site secure and protect the general public.
The destruction caused by the storm came after two years of disruption for the hospitality industry from the Covid-19 pandemic, so we worked alongside the pub staff to help them stay open for the duration of the re-roofing works.
We completed a like-for-like replacement of the existing roof – albeit with new clean tiles! – and helped them get back on their feet in time for the Spring.
The pub now has a brand new roof to weather the storms for many years to come!
