More about the Tyneside Group Team - meet Robbie Kalbraier
Interested to know more about the Tyneside Group team?
In the first of our team background features, we talked to MD Robbie about his work and life outside the office…
1. So Robbie, tell us about your role at Tyneside Group...
My role as MD is to oversee the Group’s operations on a daily basis, this includes sourcing and securing new business and maintaining client relationships. I also lead the Group’s property development projects.
2. What's your favourite thing about your job?
I love the diversity of things that I get to deal with and the variety of people that I interact with on a daily basis. The development and investment property sectors are great because there is a place for everyone no matter what their skill set, it really does take all sorts to make a project successful.
3. What attracted you initially to a career in property?
It all came about a bit by accident really. I completed a degree in Marine Biology at Newcastle University and after that, I was fortunate to stumble into a couple of small-scale property projects and managed to make good on them. Starting a career in property is far from easy but regardless of how I got here, I love what we now do. It is often laborious but it’s exciting and rewarding in equal measure, so I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else!
4. What achievements are you particularly proud of?
I am proud that Tyneside Group has got to the position it is in. The past 10 years has been a lot of hard work of course, but as a team I feel we have managed to achieve some great things. I enjoy planning and looking to the future as our focus moves onto the next projects we have in the pipeline. I also love the fact that we keep moving forward and that we’ve been able to create excellent opportunities where others can’t.
5. How do you think your colleagues would describe you?
Business can be very hard work but there needs to be some respite otherwise it’s easy to lose perspective. Despite the hard work, I do try to make sure the team has a healthy work/life balance – I know its essential for us all to be able to perform at our best. The atmosphere in the office is focused but we try to break things up a bit and lighten the mood with a laugh and a joke . So, I hope people would describe me as honest and fair with the ability to have fun too.
6. What do you enjoy doing outside of the office in your spare time?
I love being outside walking the dog no matter what the weather, so given half a chance I’ll be out in the fresh air. We’re really lucky to have loads of beautiful countryside and miles of sandy beaches in Northumberland, so put me on any of them and I will be happy!
7. If you could travel anywhere in the world and money was no object, where would you go and why?
The Islands off the West Coast of Scotland are my favourite place. On a sunny day the views and scenery are second to none. I love the isolation that being there brings with it, the peace and quiet helps me find a lot of focus too.
